Obituary for Vaughnceil Cohernour

Vaughnceil Purcell Cohernour was born in Tucson, Arizona to Delbert and Jeanetta Purcell on January 25th, 1944. She passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2026. She left behind a legacy of love, hard work and devotion to her family.

She was the beloved wife of Larry Cohernour, whom she married and loved deeply until his passing in June of 1990. Their love and commitment to one another remained a defining part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, husband and beautiful daughter, Kim.

She is survived by her son, Kelly Scott Cohernour; her granddaughter Kelly (Cohernour) Arzola, married to Dominic Arzola, and their children, David and Charlotte and her grandson, Justin Smith and his daughter Katelynn, and grandsons Justin and Zach Kemmet. Her family brought her great joy and she cherished every generation. She took loving pride in all of her family.

Throughout her life she wore many hats with grace and determination. She helped run the family locksmith business, worked in bookkeeping, property management and later in life, worked for the school system, braving outdoor weather conditions as a crossing guard. She grew to know and love many of the children and families she came in contact with there every school day. She approached every role with a strong work ethic and integrity.

In her spare time, she found joy in sewing, a hobby that reflected her creativity and patience. She loved to travel and did so extensively as long as she was able. She attended Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where she found loving fellowship and strength in her faith.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3100 Morris NE ABQ, NM 87111/ Eastern Hills Baptist Church on Sunday, August 16th, 2026 at 2:00p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend as they honor a life well-lived.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her.
