Mariann Carson, age 81, of Tijeras, New Mexico, passed away on September 16, 2026.
Born in 1945 in Salzburg, Austria, Mariann was the daughter of Laszlo and Ilona Jellachich and sister of Eleanor Jellachich, all of whom preceded her in death. Proud of her Hungarian heritage, she spent part of her childhood in Germany before immigrating to the United States through Ellis Island. Her family first settled in Philadelphia before moving to Miami, where she attended the Academy of the Assumption. She later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mariann recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband, William Pierce Carson. Together they raised four children: Ryan, Keith, Ilona, and Matthew Carson.
She is survived by her husband; her children, Ryan Carson; Keith and Anita Carson; Ilona and Jim Colasanto; and Matthew and Sierra Carson; and her eight grandchildren, Luke, Ian, Reid, Pierce, Georgina, Skyler, Elliott, and Lowell. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Christina Ackerman, Jennifer Bertha, and Carl Bertha.
Though deeply proud of her European roots, Mariann was equally grateful for the opportunities America provided her family. A lifelong learner, she loved art, history, nature, and politics. She was known for her boundless compassion toward animals and her special love for the mountains of New Mexico.
Above all, Mariann's greatest joy was her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children and grandchildren, whose lives remain her enduring legacy.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
